| About EnCorp Inc Theatre School EnCorp,
Inc., Theatre School brings the Broadway experience to
the community through the talents of New York professionals who train
youths in the original choreography, dialogue and vocal music from the
Great White Way.
The concept of having professionals lend their expertise to area
youths was suggested by former Yardley, Pa., resident Sandra Dunn a
decade ago. Initially, EnCorp provided hands-on seminars in lighting and
special effects, then presented musical productions at Peddler's
Village in Lahaska, Pa., using a mix of professional and amateur talent.
EnCorp's executive director and board treasurer Newton Gilchrist, a
Broadway veteran, brought the program to Ewing, N.J., in October 2000,
renting the studio on the campus of Villa Victoria Academy in Ewing, NJ. In January of 2001, Gilchrist
engaged Lisa Guignard, a Broadway dance captain he met when both were in
the 25th anniversary tour of My Fair Lady, to teach
theater dance classes and to be his co-director. Guignard shared with
the students original blocking, music, and dance from three musical
numbers initially choreographed for the Broadway stage:
"Campaign" from Will Rogers Follies, choreographed by
Tommy Tune; "Show Me" from My Fair Lady, choreographed
by Hanya Holme, and "Bows" from A Chorus Line,
choreographed by Michael Bennett.
EnCorp prides itself on its ability to pass on original Broadway
material, as well as its ability to bring Broadway caliber professionals
to the rehearsal space it rents at Villa Victoria. In its September 2002 show
staring Tony Award winner Anna Maria Alberghetti with conductor Craig
Barna, EnCorp students opened the performance by showcasing many Bob
Fosse numbers and received a glowing response from the audience.
In May 2003, EnCorp showcased its students in scenes from Annie
and from the rarely seen Barnum as well as skits written by its
acting director Ned Coulter and in Fosse dance numbers. Annie was
a logical choice because Guignard had just finished a national tour of
the musical that starred John Schuck of McMillan and Wife and
Marsha Lewis, who also played Miss Hannagan in Annie on Broadway
as well as the matron in Chicago.
